A major company producing ink jet printers for personal computers was having failures with plastic lead screws. The chemicals in the printing ink were attacking the polymers that make up the base material. Using stainless steel resulted in an improved wearing surface. However, metal lead screws were prone to burr problems. Thread rolling eliminated burr problems.
